Ativan Side Effects
Ativan is for the treatment of anxiety, and
could also be used to treat bipolar disorder. This is a very useful
medication to patients who are not capable of having a normal lifestyle due
to anxiety, or other psychological disorders.
However, just like any other medications out in the market, Ativan or
lorazepam also has a set of side effects. To some, the effects might
manifest in an almost unnoticeable manner, but it could also be bothersome
to others who are taking. If some unwanted effects occur, it could be easily
given medical attention and relief. Here is a list of possible side effects
for patients taking the medication.
Common Side Effects
Patients could experience some of these side effects during their
treatment: dizziness, weakness, unsteadiness or lack of coordination,
drowsiness, vertigo, some alterations in speech, low blood pressure,
headache, nausea, memory loss, some changes in sex drive, hair loss,
impotence among men, constipation and many others.
These symptoms could last only for a short time within the course of
treatment. However, if any of these becomes continuous and bothersome, it is
always best to seek medical attention and treatment.
Side Effects Related To Withdrawal
There are also some effects that manifest due to dependence. When
medication is stopped, withdrawal symptoms occur. If you have been taking
Ativan for a long time and made a sudden stop, you might experience any of
these symptoms: insomnia, hallucinations, suicidal tendencies, bleeding or
bruising for no apparent reason, nervousness and irritability and the like.
Most of these symptoms could be hazardous- always seek medical attention if
any of these manifest. It is important that Ativan is taken with the
doctor’s supervision. Any changes regarding Ativan treatment should be
approved by the doctor. Misuse of this medication could be very addictive.
In time, Ativan dependence could be dangerous, and deadly in some cases.
