Ativan Side Effects

Ativan is for the treatment of anxiety, and could also be used to treat bipolar disorder. This is a very useful medication to patients who are not capable of having a normal lifestyle due to anxiety, or other psychological disorders.

However, just like any other medications out in the market, Ativan or lorazepam also has a set of side effects. To some, the effects might manifest in an almost unnoticeable manner, but it could also be bothersome to others who are taking. If some unwanted effects occur, it could be easily given medical attention and relief. Here is a list of possible side effects for patients taking the medication.

Common Side Effects

Patients could experience some of these side effects during their treatment: dizziness, weakness, unsteadiness or lack of coordination, drowsiness, vertigo, some alterations in speech, low blood pressure, headache, nausea, memory loss, some changes in sex drive, hair loss, impotence among men, constipation and many others.

These symptoms could last only for a short time within the course of treatment. However, if any of these becomes continuous and bothersome, it is always best to seek medical attention and treatment.

Side Effects Related To Withdrawal

There are also some effects that manifest due to dependence. When medication is stopped, withdrawal symptoms occur. If you have been taking Ativan for a long time and made a sudden stop, you might experience any of these symptoms: insomnia, hallucinations, suicidal tendencies, bleeding or bruising for no apparent reason, nervousness and irritability and the like.

Most of these symptoms could be hazardous- always seek medical attention if any of these manifest. It is important that Ativan is taken with the doctor’s supervision. Any changes regarding Ativan treatment should be approved by the doctor. Misuse of this medication could be very addictive. In time, Ativan dependence could be dangerous, and deadly in some cases.
